The Wilson Store is immediate sensory overload. The most common comment is “I don’t know where to look first!” As you pour over the penny candy, making your selections (three of those … two of those … three of those!), you can almost hear the clack of the checker games that took place next to the pot-belly stove. Think about the confederate soldiers who camped in the orchard out back and bought boots in the store. Or the women buying bolts of muslin and spools of thread from the drawer. Be sure to see the map hanging on the post-office wall, and don’t miss the ledgers in Rufus Wilson’s own hand. And when you’re all done checking out all the wonderful sights and smells of The Wilson Store, make your way upstairs to Bittersweet Memories a cute boutique above the store offering a vast collection of primitive, county, and colonial-style furniture and furnishings.

It’s an amazing and tantalizing taste of history.
